Self-care for female entrepreneurs can be a tough battle, especially when entrepreneurship is a new venture, you are a single parent or work full time. Embracing the entrepreneurship journey is rewarding as it allows us to learn different skills, meet new people, and gain new perspectives. However, we commonly overlook the importance of self care when adding something as important as a new business to our full plate. When we don’t take the necessary time to take care of ourselves in entrepreneurship, this can have negative outcomes, such as taking a toll on our mental health and leading us to doubt if this is the new start we need.
Fortunately, I have the solution; so don’t give up on your new business idea. You may just need some self-care to recoup and get back to business.
Limit Social Media
What does social media have to do with self care as an entrepreneur, you ask? Well, when you have decided on a new business idea or are trying to come up with a new idea for an already existing business, it’s fairly common to visit social media to see if anyone else has done it and how they are doing it. Seeking out what industry competitors are doing is normal. Even so, you may not realize it, but overconsumption will cause you to subconsciously emulate those same ideas and compare your success to others, and we all know comparison is the thief of joy.
Industry research is necessary, but make sure your business reflects your thoughts and ideas and not what you found to work for other brands or businesses. This keeps your ideas original and fresh; and eliminates comparison.

Get Organized
Female entrepreneurship is hard—and guess what? It’s even harder when you are not organized. Getting organized in the areas below will help you create positive habits in your entrepreneurship journey.
Organize your workspace
Organizing your workspace will maximize your efficiency. Get familiar with having a space for every detail of your business. Ensure you have a spreadsheet, file, or even a manila folder to file copies of costs and expenses. Organize inventory, always know what you have on hand, where you will store it etc.
Your designated business area is for business only! Try not to clutter your space with everyday matters.

Time your tasks
Plan your tasks down to the minute so you do not take longer than necessary to complete them. During that time, many ideas and thoughts may come to you, and if you don’t know how to complete tasks as planned, you will end up with a lot of loose ends and unfinished ideas.
If you have a full-time career and/or a family, a schedule is especially important as evening hours are very limited for working on your business.
Plan ahead
Schedule days where you complete your tasks in bulk so that they are on an automated schedule throughout the week. This may work for social posts, blogs, and retail. This can also free up time throughout the week for other necessary tasks.
Delegate
As a female entrepreneur and mother, we want to be able to do it all, but the ultimate form of self care is allowing yourself to get someone else to do it. If there are tasks that you ultimately do not have time for, such as media design, then check out sites like Fiverr that freelance work to vetted professionals.
Get Clear Boundaries
Starting the road to becoming an entrepreneur will call for much change in your life. Where we may have found self care in those days/nights out with our loved ones, it’s important to weigh what is truly important right now when you are in business. What can you do without until you can get your business idea off the ground? You may not be able to binge-watch your favorite show on Saturday because attending a marketing webinar would benefit you more, or you may not need to purchase that new dress because you have to purchase new inventory for your upcoming launch.
It’s okay to make sacrifices for your future and it’s fine to simply reschedule an event. Get clear about your boundaries, and remember you are only one person. Taking on too much will only put more pressure on you and hinder your business growth.
Physical Self Care For Female Entrepreneurs
I know that when I am focused on an idea, I can get so laser-focused that I skip out on my needs. I have missed meals and scheduled appointments because I was so honed in on a new venture. More often than not, this happens to a lot of us. That is why self care is so important as an entrepreneur. Take care of yourself by ensuring you eat wholesome meals, take your necessary vitamins, and have healthy snacks for those days you just need to grab something. Get in touch with nature (such a mood booster!) and move your body. Your business will only be as great as you are.
Mental Care For Female Entrepreneurs

Although I mentioned that you may need to sacrifice some things for the sake of your business, your mental health should not be one of them. Ensure sure your mental health is in check. When you feel a shift in motivation, take a step back to evaluate what you need. Maybe this weekend, brunch weighs more than purchasing new inventory. When you have a family, decision fatigue takes a toll and can get overwhelming. For this reason, if you feel that your new business has been weighing too much on your mental health, please speak with a mentor, confidant or a professional therapist to help sort through those feelings you may be having. Always celebrate your wins. No one wants all work and no play. Take those breaks with no regrets!
Self-care can be nonexistent for female entrepreneurs when juggling a family or a 9-to-5, but it doesn’t have to be if you incorporate a few of the tips I mentioned. Just remember that your business is nothing without you. Don’t forget why you are doing this, and don’t give up. Enjoy each day as it comes, and celebrate even your small wins.
